Pastoral Commentary for Numbers 27:12-29:6
Author: Pastor Bob Nordlie
When God told Moses that he would not enter the Promised Land, Moses showed his genuine concern for the people of Israel, asking God to appoint a new leader for them so that they would not be "as sheep that have no shepherd." God told Moses to commission Joshua because the Holy Spirit was in him. The ancient tradition of the laying on of hands is illustrated here, and still continues to this day whenever a pastor is ordained into the Holy Ministry. It is a sign of God's choosing of that person and placing His authority on him to serve on behalf of God's people. God commanded His people to remember Him by daily, Sabbath and monthly offerings. This shows us how important it is to spend daily time with the Lord. God reiterated His commands concerning the Passover, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles, as well as adding words concerning the Feast of Trumpets which was not mentioned in the book of Exodus.
