Pastoral Commentary for Joshua 13:1-14:5
Author: Pastor Bob Nordlie
Although there were still territories to be conquered God assured Joshua, even in his old age, that "I myself will drive them out before the Israelites," so Joshua was to allocate this land to the tribes of Israel just as surely as if they were already subdued, for God's Word is true. The distribution of the land east of the Jordan to Reuben, Gad and the half of Manasseh was reaffirmed. Levi received not allotment of territory like the other tribes the LORD and their portion of the offerings were the inheritance of the Levites. Clan by Clan the allotment of land east of the Jordan was carefully delineated. No details are left to chance. The LORD is entirely sovereign over all. In the same way, nothing in our lives happens by accident, but the LORD is aware of every detail, right down to the number of hairs on our heads. Here too we see that there is no reason for jealousy over what another person may have in comparison to what we have. God will meet our every need, and governs everything for the good of those who love Him.
